At Horizon Credit Union, we believe that education of our youth plays an important role in our commitment to the communities we serve.  We have developed partnerships with schools and participated in a number of activities involving our staff and the school communities.

Horizon Credit Union is pleased to offer the Grade 9 and Grade 12 Scholarships based on the following criteria:

• A student who demonstrates strong leadership qualities in activities at the school or in the community.
• A student who has demonstrated co-operation and achievement by utilizing the co-operative approach.
• Academic levels will not be a factor, only specification is that the student receives an overall average of 50% or more.
• You do not need to be a member of the Credit Union before applying.

Grad Awards - Grade 9

Each year a $200.00 3-year Term Deposit is awarded to a Grade 9 student attending school in Grayson, North Valley School, Grenfell, Wolseley, St. Henry's and Melville Comprehensive schools. Students must apply. Students in Grade 9 at each of the schools are encouraged to complete and remit the Graduate Award application. Application forms may be picked up at our office locations in Grayson, Grenfell, Neudorf, Wolseley or Melville or at their school in mid-April each year.

Each year a $300.00 Bursary is awarded to a Grade 12 student attending school at North Valley School, Grenfell, Wolseley, and Melville Comprehensive School. Students must apply. Students in Grade 12 at each of the schools are encouraged to complete and remit the Graduate Award application. Application forms may be picked up at our office locations in Grayson, Grenfell, Neudorf, Wolseley, and Melville.

Parkland Regional College and SouthEast Regional College Scholarships

Each year Horizon Credit Union makes available a $250.00 scholarship to students attending either of the above regional colleges in the area of business. The scholarship must be applied for at each of the applicable Colleges and is selected according to the criteria by the College selections committees.

One more way Horizon Credit Union is helping our youth in education and build a strong community.

Miller and Davison School Diamond Awards

Horizon Credit Union is the proud sponsor of the Diamond Awards presented each year to 2 students in each grade at Davison and Miller Schools.

Diamond stands for:

Dedication, always trying to improve and do their best,
Independent, works on own to get tasks done,
Alert, listens to instructions and announcements,
Manners, displays behavior that follows the rules and uses proper etiquette,
On Time, ready with books out and ready for class when class begins,
Nice, treats teachers, students and visitors with respect and kindness,
Dependable, can be relied upon when asked to do something.

Teachers submit names of students and choose those who most often display the Diamond Award behavior. As a sponsor we provide a certificate to each student of $10.00 toward opening an account with our office, or to place in an existing account.

Our support to these programs is to promote positive behavior in youth and offer them support in understanding how to do financial transactions and business as they grow.
